Chuck Webster

Pulpit Minister

I’ve been happily married to Melony since 1992, and we’re the proud parents of four children—two in college and two still at home.

I’ve been the preaching minister at the Hoover church since March 2004, and I love getting to share the good news about Jesus Christ with a group of people who want to know Him better. I believe with all my heart that the story of Jesus is true and that He wants me to talk about Him to as many people as possible.

My sermons are usually based on a single passage in the Bible, and I try to explain what God meant  when He put it there, what it teaches us about Jesus, and what it means to us as we face life’s daily challenges. The Bible’s message isn’t hard to understand—though we don’t understand everything it says, of course—but God has a simple message about Jesus that changes our lives. We’re all people who—like you—have made a mess of our lives, but God through Jesus comes to us to bring us back to Him as He helps us pick up the pieces of our brokenness.

That’s the message we share here, and we would love for you come be a part of one of our gatherings.

A little more about Chuck . . .

He grew up in different small towns in Alabama and then moved to a suburb of Memphis as a teenager. He has two older sisters, and the three of them were blessed to be brought up in a Christian home by two godly parents who still live in western Tennessee. He’s got a bunch of preachers in his extended family.

When not doing church stuff, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and kids, reading (various genres: history, biographies, fiction), and watching college football. Sometimes he get serious about running to stay in shape, and sometimes he gets serious about not running at all.

Chuck attended Freed-Hardeman University (B.S., Math), The University of Alabama (M.A., Speech Communication), and Beeson Divinity School (M.Div., Theology), and he’s currently working on his Doctor of Ministry in homiletics at Beeson.

Darrell Powell

Youth and Family Minister

I knew pretty early in life that I wanted to be a minister.  Dad preached and was a good example to me, my 2 brothers, and sister.  I saw him serve and impact people, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

I started trying to be a youth minister in 2001, married Jamie a year later, and have developed a passion for ministering to youth and their families.  We have 2 great kids at home who tickle our souls daily.  God has been good to us.

In May of 2015, we made the move from Greenville, AL to become part of the Hoover church of Christ family.  We feel loved and appreciated in a way we could not have expected.  The people here are full of mercy and grace, and they care genuinely about one another.

Our vision for this church is to facilitate a true “family” ministry.  Every member, young or old, has a place in God’s family.  While we all contribute in different ways, the most important place for us to be is together.  Together, we live and move and breathe as the Body of Christ.

A little more about Darrell…

As a preacher’s kid, answering the question, “Where are you from?” is always a little interesting.  He says he’s from Cordova, AL because he was there the longest, and because that’s where he spent most of his “wonder years.”  He also lived in the Austin, TX area for several years.

He didn’t necessarily seek out youth ministry as a career, but now plans to keep doing it forever.  This is what he wants to do.

Darrell (used to) love playing football, still loves to play basketball, and enjoys motorcycles and being outside.

He attended Faulkner University where he earned a B.A. in Bible in 2003.

Kyle Wadley

Associate Minister

I’ve been happily married to Wendy for 32 years and we have been blessed with 3 living children, and 1 who is waiting for us in Heaven. I have been the Associate Minister for the Hoover Church of Christ since October of 2011.  I love my work and consider it an honor to serve with such a wonderful congregation of the Lord.

My  responsibilities cover a wide scope of work including Director of our Brother’s Keepers Program, Coordinator of the Lads to Leaders Program, Song leading, Teaching, Preaching, Director of the Leadership Visitation Outreach, and Children’s Minister for all of our 5th grade and under and their families. The Hoover Church of Christ is filled with love, acceptance, and a burning desire to follow the word of God. I firmly believe that it is a place where you and your family could grow in the Lord. Come join us!
