Darrell Powell

I knew pretty early in life that I wanted to be a minister.  Dad preached and was a good example to me, my 2 brothers, and sister.  I saw him serve and impact people, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

I started trying to be a youth minister in 2001, married Jamie a year later, and have developed a passion for ministering to youth and their families.  We have 2 great kids at home who tickle our souls daily.  God has been good to us.

In May of 2015, we made the move from Greenville, AL to become part of the Hoover Church of Christ family.  We feel loved and appreciated in a way we could not have expected.  The people here are full of mercy and grace, and they care genuinely about one another.

Our vision for this church is to facilitate a true “family” ministry.  Every member, young or old, has a place in God’s family.  While we all contribute in different ways, the most important place for us to be is together.  Together, we live and move and breathe as the Body of Christ.

A little more about Darrell…

As a preacher’s kid, answering the question, “Where are you from?” is always a little interesting.  He says he’s from Cordova, AL because he was there the longest, and because that’s where he spent most of his “wonder years.”  He also lived in the Austin, TX area for several years.

He didn’t necessarily seek out youth ministry as a career, but now plans to keep doing it forever.  This is what he wants to do.

Darrell (used to) love playing football, still loves to play basketball, and enjoys motorcycles and being outside.

He attended Faulkner University where he earned a B.A. in Bible in 2003.
